Left tired as hell from the first shelter. Some ass holes rolled in at 10 PM with white lights blasting us and making a bunch of Damn noise. Weekend warriors, please be respectful of other shelter dwellers. If you get in late, the least you could do is put on the fucking red light and not blast my eyes with blinding light while I’m asleep. For future reference, please set up camp as opposed to thrashing around and waking up the shelter people.

Anyway, well at least I found this cool abandoned cabin out in the woods today. The roof was full of holes so unfortunately it wouldn’t have been usable.

Met a Swiss couple today when I got to the Keffer Oak who were not so friendly. I want to tell myself it’s just the language barrier, but I think they might just be rude. Either way, HYOH.

This is the 2nd biggest oak on the AT

Lots went on today. I climbed up to a slippery rocky ridge up in the clouds with terrible views and busted my ass twice.

I found out that Irises grow wild in the mountains. I thought they only grew in swamps down south. Am I ignorant or what??

I realized that this mountain range had oaks growing on one side and pines on the other.

Hence the color variation

On getting to the shelter, I found a 6 pack in the spring which was awesome.

2 Canadian guys that started exactly a month after me caught up to me and were a tad bit rude about it.

After having a beer, I pushed on to the Audie Murphy Monument to catch the sunset. I would have 100% set up my hammock on the overlook if it hadn’t been so Damn windy.

I got to see my favorite Swiss couple again. They seemed disappointed I went to the same spot, so I gave them their space and camped out down the mountain. I guess not everyone is super insanely friendly. Oh well, HYOH:)
