Had hang around for the Day until 4 PM when the mail man shows up. Got half way through some book called “When my love returns from the ladies room, will I be too old to care?”. The title was catchy, and adequate for scenarios in today’s life, but was a comedic book based on quirky aspects of 90s that is a little antiquated. Maybe more like,a history book since I was like 6 years old back then.
We did get fed fresh garden salad/a pile of weeds that was absolutely superb! So much flavor and texture it was almost overwhelming.
Got to meet Fly away today who is WFS for a few days ( her pack flew off the top of a shuttle can, hence the name). Casper ended up walking right back an hour later, saying his injury was too bad to press on with.
Also got to work on the farm today! I helped them clip the goat hooves. That was an adventure having to chase them down.
Finally, my package showed up and I managed to push out 8.5 miles. Came across a beautiful overlook before the sunset, and got to see the remains of the floodwaters that wrecked havoc on the trail yesterday. So much washout!
Night hiked on to Angels Rest right outside of Pearisburg. On the way there, I came across Poppins, Stoat, and the Arkansas Twins (Link and Folklore) camped out at a power line. I couldn’t find a good place to hang, so I had to hang across the blue blazed trail leading to the overlook. Damn was it pretty at night.
After looking out, I ate dinner and climbed in my sling, only to start hearing rustling around on the ground. A small field mouse had eaten into my bag of cookies. In a rage I shouted at the thing. Well that scared the brave bastard for about 30 seconds until he was back in the bag. I rolled over again and slammed my headlight on. He was sitting just out of arms reach, massive eyes paralyzed with fear. I reached for,the cookie bag, picked it up, pulled out a handful of cookies (he was still paralyzed) and I threw them at him as hard as I could. Needless to say he ran off. I slept well the rest of the night…
