Continuing on from the sunset, I caught a lovely sun rise right from the comfort of my own hammock 🙂
Hike up through Grayson Highlands was gorgeous as expected. I skipped the Mt Roger blue blaze as I had already seen it on a trip with UAB outdoor pursuits a few years back. I was really hoping the ponies would be at the nice shelter coming up, but nobody showed 😦
I pushed on to see if they were hiding somewhere on the trail, and just about walked out of the park when I spotted one way off in the distance! Dropping my stuff off, I went running for them, on what I thought was the AT, well it really wasn’t… Boyd caught me and we ended up finding the right trail and found 3 just before the the stile.
We were having way too much fun with them. We made it to the next shelter and found Easter eggs and bologna sandwiches! Eating that and being told that Fresh Ground was just ahead, Boyd and I decided to push on, no matter how long it took, and would hopefully get there before dusk.
We stopped at the last shelter before FG that was 2 miles south, and talked to Hawkeye for a minute, who had already set up tent. He said he would roll in come morning.
So we pushed on, were getting beat by the night, and threw on the red beams. By the time we got to his camp, we could smell fire and people talking. They had an entire pizza for the both of us plus hot dogs and cake. I had never been so happy to see food and people. Everyone went to sleep shortly after arriving, but I did get to met some new and old faces, seeing Roadside for the 2nd time, Indy, Seeker, and a few others. I threw up the hammock and got cozy for sleep.
